Applications Architect - Senior
Summary:
Join our team as a Solution Architect to design and implement scalable, cloud-based healthcare technology solutions. Leveraging your expertise in Microsoft Azure, AWS, and enterprise architecture, you'll develop application frameworks, ensure security compliance, and support product roadmaps. This role involves working with messaging standards like XML, JSON, HL7 FHIR, and RESTful APIs to drive seamless integration. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams in a hybrid environment (1 day onsite every two weeks) to align technology solutions with business objectives. Ideal for professionals with experience in healthcare IT, privacy legislation (PHIPA), and structured architecture methodologies within the public sector.
 
Description

Background Information:

The Central Waitlist Management (FY25-26) initiative aims to digitally enable stakeholders at a provincial, regional and hospital level. Applying a user first approach, requirements will be developed throughout the duration of the initiative.

Must haves:

  • Strong knowledge and experience with Cloud computing concepts. Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS knowledge is required
  • Strong knowledge of building applications using server-less computing , PaaS, SaaS
  • Strong understanding of .NET Framework development patterns and how best to apply them
  • Broad understanding of Microsoft technology stacks across operating system, middleware and database products
  • Knowledge of application security architectures and the purpose of privacy and security controls (e.g. token based authentication and authorization such as OIDC, SAML and OAUTH)
  • Knowledge of messaging concepts such as XML, JSON, HL7® FHIR® , RESTful API are required
  • Knowledge of Archimate® modeling framework

Responsibilities:

  • Defines the structure and relationship amongst applications, including the identification of re-usable components, the organization and layering of software, and the determination of interfaces. Responsibilities also include developing, implementing and managing at least one cross-platform application architecture in a large and distributed environment. 

Desired Skills:

  • Certified Azure Cloud Engineer/Architect is an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of object-oriented analysis and design techniques 
  • Experience in developing enterprise architecture deliverables (e.g. models) based on Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture processes and practice 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Information Management principles, concepts, policies and practices 
  • Certification in ArchiMate® and knowledge of TOGAF® is an asset
  • Experience as an architect implementing solutions using Healthcare Technology standards in Canada, preferably Ontario.

Experience Levels: 

  • Level 2: 5-9 years of experience

  • Leadership experience in the development and implementation of application architectures at the specified experience level 
  • Extensive experience with at least two different computing platforms, operating systems, environments, database technologies, programming languages and communication protocols 
  • Experience with middleware and gateways 
  • Knowledge of performance considerations in different environments 
  • Experience in structured methodologies for the design, development and implementation of applications 
  • Extensive experience in systems analysis and design in large systems environments 
  • Experience in the use of development tools, Computer Aided Software Engineering tools, information retrieval packages, and other software tools such as project management software and business re-engineering software 
  • Experience in the use of data and process modelling methodologies, techniques and tools, including a working knowledge of metadata structures, repository functions, and data dictionaries 
  • Awareness of emerging IT trends and directions 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills; verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal and negotiation skills 
  • A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines 
  • Experience in developing enterprise architecture deliverables (e.g. models) 
  • Ability to understand and translate tactical and operational business requirements into effective architectures and designs

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a solution Architect on electronic health-related projects in Canada, preferably in Ontario. - 20 points
  • Experience in developing enterprise architecture deliverables (e.g. models) based on Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture processes and practice. - 15 points
  • Experience working with messaging concepts such as XML, JSON, HL7® FHIR®, RESTful API - 25 points
  • Experience with Microsoft Cloud based solutions and frameworks and Amazon AWS platform - 25 points

Deliverables

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Work from Business Architectures to develop, evolve, and maintain logical Information Systems architectures consistent with Ontario Health’s architecture principles, standards, methodologies, and best practices
  • Ensure that relevant SDLC architecture artifacts and practices are followed in the implementation of solutions aligned with Software Development Services Centre of Excellence
  • Support implementation teams to build and deploy systems in conformance to solution architecture by knowledge sharing, conducting audits and code reviews
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to help develop interim and target state architectures to support product road maps
  • Conduct cloud feasibility assessments for products
  • Provide technical consulting and advisory services to product and projects team to ensure that solutions are in line with the architecture direction
  • Evaluate/research technology, market trends and industry plus identify prospective impact to organization 
Additional Terms

Ontario Health assets including laptops and related equipment cannot be removed from the province of Ontario without prior written approval from Ontario Health.

Assignment Type: This position is currently listed as "Hybrid". The resource under this request will be required to work onsite as per Hiring Manager sole discretion.

Knowledge Transfer Details:

The candidate will transfer knowledge about solution architecture, design, and dependencies to the members of the Architecture Program team.

As well, they will provide a walk-through of all documents created as part of the engagement.
